On January 18th, 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to host my first-ever photography workshop in Melbourne, Australia.  The workshop was hosted by none other than the legendary music photographer Michelle Grace Hunder at her studio, Got Next Studios — a space filled with creativity and passion.

This workshop was extra special because it was the first time I got to share my 50 years of photography knowledge and experiences with a group of eager learners.  As a photographer, I’ve always believed in the power of sharing knowledge and this was a huge moment for me.  The workshop turned out to be a fantastic time for everyone involved — and honestly, it ended up being an even bigger inspiration for me than I ever expected.

I’ve spent my career working hard to capture iconic moments and build a legacy in photography.  During the workshop, I was able to share not just my techniques, but also my philosophy about photography, storytelling, and what it takes to create images that stand the test of time.  From discussing how I approach a shoot to the technical tricks that help me get the perfect shot, I made sure to provide attendees with the tools and inspiration they can carry with them in their own work.

Between sharing insights and answering questions, I was constantly “dropping knowledge” and telling stories from my journey.  Every photo has a story behind it and I believe it’s the process and dedication that makes photography so powerful.  I also showed how I push myself to work harder than most — always looking for that next level, whether in technique or creative vision.

We were fortunate to have two of my good friends, Jordan Ravi and Julia Strom, as models for the workshop.  Their energy and professionalism brought an added spark to the day.  The creativity in the room was infectious, and everyone got hands-on experience shooting with them.  Watching the students experiment, learn, and create was a highlight of the workshop.  I could see the passion for photography in every shot, and it reminded me why I love doing this.

Photography has been my life’s passion, and to be able to inspire others in the same way I was inspired early on — there’s nothing like it.  Honestly, I had more fun than anyone who showed up!  Teaching gave me a new sense of joy and I’m already looking forward to the next one.  I can’t wait to see how the attendees take what they learned and continue to grow as photographers.

A huge THANK YOU to Michelle Grace Hunder for hosting this workshop and to Got Next Studios for providing such an amazing space.  It was the perfect setting for creative energy and I couldn’t have asked for a better environment to share my journey.

Finally, a BIG thanks to everyone who joined me at the workshop.  Your enthusiasm and willingness to learn made the day even more special.  I can’t wait for the next chance to work together and share more!
